DIY Baby Onesies

March 11, 2012

I have decided that I want to post a few more things on here other than just recipes. So therefore I am sharing my most recent project. Some baby onesies I made for a friend who is having a baby soon. I do need to have a disclaimer with these images though!

I haven’t sewn anything on my own since I was literally 12 years old. That was about 15 years ago. My husband had to show me how to thread the sewing machine. Yikes.

My original plan was to use heat n bond for the appliques and then sew those one. After looking everywhere for my huge roll, I gave up and decided to free hand the whole thing. I will be honest, sewing is HARD. I did struggle with it and I don’t know yet if its something I want to continue to try my hand at. I see so many cute tutuorials and diy stuff out there and I wish I could do them. I’d love to sew a quilt one day, but that would require sewing in a straight line and last time I checked, I’m not so great at sewing in a line, circle, or any shape! Another difficult thing was since it was a onesie it would get wrinkly and scrunched up. I think taking on a blanket as my first project would have been a better idea 🙂

Either way, I am pretty happy about the results given my non-existent history with sewing and craftiness! I hope my mom friend understands that these may just fall apart in the washing machine one day, but hey its the thought that counts right?

My goal for next time: To practice more with straight lines and easier diy projects. If anyone out there has any sewing tips, please feel free to comment below.

Have a great weekend!
